Cameron
Hello! My name’s Cameron and I am a graduate from St Hugh’s College, Oxford last year with a BA in Mathematics. After Oxford, I went on to take a MSc in Mathematics and Theoretical Physics at the University of Nottingham, where I received a Distinction. Whilst at Oxford, I took on many responsibilities within both college and the wider university, including being the President of the St Hugh’s Maths society, and the access representative for the Mathematical Institute.
Before going to university, I went to a state comprehensive school in Leeds, where I studied for A-levels in Maths, Further Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Spanish. I took my GCSE and A-level Maths early, which allowed me time to take the Advanced Extension Award, as well as taking up playing both the piano and bass guitar in school and I still love to play and listen to music now.
It was in secondary school that I started tutoring and helping others. This started with assisting some younger year students in Maths lessons and also helping a native Spanish speaker improve her English comprehension. Throughout university, I continued tutoring a wide range of regular students up to A-level, and my tutoring work also included helping students develop their problem solving skills needed for the Oxford Maths Admissions Test. I also took a year long placement in a secondary school, where I tutored Science (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) to 12-16 year olds in small groups or one-to-one. I was exposed to a whole range of different learning styles and had to adapt to provide the best teaching, especially as I was tutoring some students that had special educational needs.
Communication is key when it comes to tutoring and I am always happy to adapt my tutoring style to meet the needs of my students. I find mathematics and the sciences so fascinating and I can’t wait to share this love for these subjects with tutees!
